Pre-Order Now: The Starless Crown by James Rollins

Happy New Year!

The Signed Page is going to have a very busy year this year. More details on that next week.

In the meantime, a book published today that’s important to post about now. It is The Starless Crown by James Rollins. While Jim is best known for his thriller work these last twenty years or so, he actually began his writing career at Del Rey Books as James Clemens. He wrote several fantasy novels. Now he is back, writing fantasy for Tor Books, and The Starless Crown is that first book. And wow, is it great. I received an early copy of it last year. Epic, epic, epic is the only way I can describe it.

Jim has offered to sign dust jackets through the mail as The Signed Page has done several times in the last two years with other authors. To sweeten that deal, Tor Books has sent me 100 special pins to commemorate the release of The Starless Crown and I’m giving one for every book sold.

Pre-order The Starless Crown by Friday, January 7th. Yes, that’s a fast request but I need to know counts to order the books into stock. Books will ship later this month.

Also, The Signed Page now has Twitter and Instagram, along with Facebook. If you use those social media platforms, feel free to follow us there too!

More news next week. We have about ten titles to announce. Yay!

If you have questions, feel free to ask.

With Magic,
Shawn

Books Added: Antiquity Grey & Jak Dreadth

Hi Everyone,

As most of you probably know, I ran a Kickstarter last year for my new book, The Tempered Steel of Antiquity Grey. It included a prequel novella titled The Undone Life of Jak Dreadth. The Kickstarter funded. And I’ve spent all of 2021 waiting, waiting, waiting on books to be printed, bound, and shipped to me.

The waiting is coming to an end soon. A few weeks ago, I received the regular hardcover of The Tempered Steel of Antiquity Grey. I have just been informed that the regular hardcover copies of The Undone Life of Jak Dreadth have shipped and they should arrive to me around December 16th. The numbered, lettered, and rare editions of these books should arrive sometime in January. Or so I am told.

We have begun shipping out the Kickstarter orders that don’t include those limited/lettered books or the regular hardcovers of Jak Dreadth. Some Kickstarter backers have already received their signed regular hardcover of Antiquity Grey. This makes me happy.

Arriving December 16th

Many of you who did not support the Kickstarter have been asking when the regular hardcover of Antiquity Grey would be posted up on The Signed Page. Since we are finishing with the Kickstarter orders today that feature only that book, I feel I can put them on The Signed Page.

Here are some links:

Those of you who order just The Tempered Steel of Antiquity Grey and/or Song of the Fell Hammer, I can ship those books this week since we have a few days before Jak Dreadth finally arrives. Those of you who order The Undone Life of Jak Dreadth on the same receipt as Antiquity Grey and/or Fell Hammer, you’ll be waiting until after we’ve shipped out about 300 Kickstarter orders first starting on December 16th. The Kickstarter folks have been waiting the longest; they should get their books first before any Signed Page orders ship. That means these would not arrive in time for holiday gift-giving more than likely.

One more note. If you want to order The Tempered Steel of Antiquity Grey for a gift, you’d better select Priority Mail or DHL to have the best chance of receiving it on time. And I can’t guarantee any arrival due to the mercurial nature of USPS as of late. Please keep that in mind.

Best Holiday Wishes,
Shawn

Fonda Lee Signing Delayed – Here’s Why

Hi Everyone,

This is a terrible blog post but it’s one I have to write.

Fonda Lee was going to stop by The Signed Page tomorrow to sign books as planned. I ordered copies of Jade City, Jade War, and Jade Legacy back in October, and they were slated to arrive by November 30th so I would have enough time to get the books checked for damages, flapped to the title page, and ready for Fonda’s visit.

Last week, I received copies of Jade War. That’s it. When I reached out to my Orbit rep about all of this, they notified me that my initial order had been canceled because they ran out of stock of Jade City and Jade Legacy. Even though this was for an author event. Even though I had already pre-sold the books. And even though they had already said I was to be given copies. In over 20 years of running The Signed Page, I’ve never had a publisher confirm an order for copies of a book and then allocate no copies. It leaves me in a weird spot.

Fonda has done her best job to try and secure the copies we need. She’s been great. But ultimately, we were unsuccessful through our various book channels to get the books we need.

Here is what’s going on: Orbit is already producing a 2nd printing of Jade Legacy. They are supposed to be in the Orbit warehouses December 16th. I’ll probably get copies about a week later. Orbit is also producing a new printing of Jade City, to be shipped to the Orbit warehouses January 10th.

As you can see, this delays things considerably, as I will get together with Fonda in January once all three titles are in stock at The Signed Page.

This is all horrible. Some of you don’t like 2nd printings. Some of you will want to find a copy of Jade Legacy now if you can. Here are your options:

  • I can cancel and refund your order. No problem. No worries. Easy to do.
  • I can cancel part of your order if there’s a book you want still.
  • I can keep your order on file and Fonda will sign books in January and that’s when I’ll ship.

If you’d like to cancel or refund your order, write me an email at contact [@] signedpage [dot] com and let me know by Thursday, December 9th. I’ll be letting the publisher know quantities I need on Friday. Otherwise, I’ll hold onto your order until January when Fonda will sign.

Thank you for your understanding. I truly appreciate it. I know Fonda feels the same way.

Best Wishes,
Shawn
