New Signings: Dawson & Hearne, Donato, Salvatore

Hi All,

I hope this New Year has started well for you! And that you’ve already read several books!

Today, I am announcing the first signings for 2019! I have a solid ten signed titles that I’ll be offering as the year progresses. But to start, I thought I’d begin with the first set that publish in the next few months. These are powerhouse titles by powerhouse authors. I’m excited about every one of these for very different reasons:

RECKONING OF FALLEN GODS by R. A. Salvatore — PRE-ORDER HERE!

I always applaud an author trying something new, which is a theme for many of the books that I’ll have on The Signed Page this year. When Salvatore released the news that he’d be returning to the world of Corona, I was happy. But he’s managed to create a powerful story, one of a witch trying to change the course of her world. Child of a Mad God began it but this one ramps it all up in unexpected ways! Salvatore will only be signing 48 of these.

MIDDLE-EARTH by Donato — PRE-ORDER HERE!

This is the very definition of epic book! First it is a book featuring art based on the unbelievably rich world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Second, that art is done by Donato, one of the foremost Tolkien artists and just an awesome artist anyway. And three, those of you who know my work on Grim Oak Press know I love hiring Donato for our books too. So a Tolkien book signed by Donato? Gold! And it’s also an oversized book at 10″ x 14″ that can be put out on a coffee table with pride or on one’s shelves! This is a super rare signing since Donato isn’t touring for it–in fact, I’m visiting him in NYC to make this happen!

Pre-order now and your book will be embossed with a Kings of Gondor logo!

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD GNOMES by Delilah S. Dawson & Kevin Hearne — PRE-ORDER HERE!

One of my favorite books last year was Kill the Farmboy, an irreverant, trope-killing hilarious book on par with the work of Terry Pratchett and Piers Anthony. Now Dawson and Hearne return for its sequel, No Country For Old Gnomes! A gorgeous cover, more laughs, and more goats. Or something. this book will be double-signed by the two! Need to laugh these days? This is the way to do it!

There you go! Pre-order now! Remember if you order books together and you are an international customer, those books will ship together. If you have any questions, feel free to write in and ask me. I’m always around.

Best Wishes,
Shawn Speakman

About Those Hounded Comic Books

Hi Everyone,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the Hounded comic book set #1-3 signed by Kevin Hearne will not become reality.

That isn’t entirely true but it sure feels like it. I have issues 1-2. Many of them have some damage due to really poor packaging from the comic book publisher that produced these. I wrote them about it; they never responded. When they didn’t respond and issue #3 wasn’t out yet, I knew something was up. This is what Kevin Hearne had to say about the situation on his new newsletter:

With great regret, I had to cancel the Iron Druid comic books after issue #2. Why? Because issue #3 was like five months late and…never coming. They were a year out of contract, basically, so I pulled the plug. They didn’t hold up their end of things and I’m bummed we won’t see them finish up but I didn’t think I would see them finish it anyway. So no more spiffy comics, alas. I hope you enjoyed the first two issues—I did! It’s a great medium for the stories. Perhaps we’ll find someone to do them justice later on. In the meantime: I love fan art and often share it!

As you can see, issue #3 will not happen, thereby not completing the set that I put up for pre-order. I just got off the phone with Kevin, a discussion about how best to proceed for all of you who have waited so patiently. I could just refund everyone and be done with it. But I have issues #1-2 here and I hate seeing books or comic books wasted. Here is what we will do. I will ship these comic books to Kevin for signing. He will sign and return them — along with some cool additional swag as an offering to the gods since issue #3 isn’t present.

When you receive your order and if you aren’t happy enough with it, I will give you a refund. Just write me then and I’ll make it happen. I’m more than happy to do it. I just want these comic books in my home to go to their proper homes where they will be loved and cherished.

Sorry we couldn’t do better on this one! But sadly, all of it was out of our hands.

In other news, I will be hosting Kevin and Delilah Dawson for a double-signing of their new book, No Country For Old Gnomes in April! That one will happen! Ha! You can pre-order that book now. The sooner the better to help me with book ordering!

Best Wishes,
